Half-share membership

Half share membership gives you a veg box every other week, at half the cost and half the hours commitment. You effectively share a membership with another household.

We want to be as accessible as possible for families with children – we want to encourage the next generation to understand how food can be produced sustainably. So children who come to the farm count towards their family’s work hours even if their work contribution is less productive!

We ask for a monthly payment, currently £24.92, plus a commitment to an average of 2 hours helping out at the Farm per month at times to suit you. These are ‘person hours’, so if there are two people in your household and you each do 2 hours work, that would count as 4 hours. For example a couple with a half share membership could come to the farm work party for 4 hours, once every 4 months.

Rather than being a chore, most members regard the time they spend at the farm in the natural and relaxed environment with other like-minded people as one of the best things about being part of The Oak Tree Community Farm.

As you would be sharing a membership with another household you will receive a veg box to collect from the veg stand near the farm entrance every other week. Many of our members are part of a delivery group with other members living nearby, who take it in turns to deliver the veg boxes to their group. Our veg boxes vary throughout the year with the changing seasons.

At certain times of the year we occasionally buy in small quantities of local organic produce, but the vast majority is grown on the farm. We are not certified organic – because our members are directly involved with growing our veg from seed to harvest, certification is simply unnecessary! We never use any artificial pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers.

Standing Order *

I/we will set up a Standing Order from my/our bank account for £24.91 to my share partner, or £49.83 to The Oak Tree Farm every month (equivalent to £5.75 per week for each share) on the 1st of each month until further notice. We will be in touch by email to make these arrangements and pair you up with another half share member if and when one becomes available.

Work Hours *

I/we understand that as a part of my membership of the CSA I undertake to work at least 2 hours per month at the Farm on average. This work commitment is per half share, i.e. may be shared between members of my household. The work commitment is very important to the farm and members can also help with other tasks if they wish - if you have particular skills you would like to share please let us know.

Contact Details and GDPR *

I/we agree that my contact details may be shared with other CSA members for the purpose of administering and organising the CSA. Your details will be stored securely under password protection and will not be shared with any other parties for any other purpose.

Harvest Guarantee *

I/we sign up to this project at my own risk and understand that although The Oak Tree Community Farm will do its best to supply consistent quantities and varieties of vegetables, there is no guarantee of specific produce or quantity. I understand that occasionally the weekly harvest may be cancelled due to insufficient crops being available to harvest or due to severe weather making the harvest difficult. If this happens and you miss a box, you will either get one the following week instead or you can cross off 2 of your ‘Work hours’ on the Work Log at the Farm.

Minimum Membership Period & Notice *

I/we understand that my membership is initially for the minimum period of 3 months and that after my first 2 months, should I/we wish to cancel my membership I/we will give the Farm 1 month’s notice in writing. Your membership will automatically carry on after 3 months unless you tell us you wish to stop it. If so, please give us 1 month’s notice. I also understand that the Farm relies on members completing their work hours and reserves the right to make a charge of £5.00 per hour for any un-worked hours.

Health & Safety *

When visiting the farm I agree to follow health and safety instructions displayed by and explained at the farm. I understand that while children under 18 are welcome at the farm, they remain the responsibility of their parents/guardians at all times.
